So–in 2 days, the HOMBRE medical student team will be traveling to Santo Domingo for a 2-week service trip. The trip is being facilitated by the DASV in terms of helping with logistics and planning, and the team will be providing care for 4 days in Paraiso and 4 days at Fundación Sol Naciente’s Santo Domingo community health center. As internet access allows, these posts will be updated while the team is in the DR.

We are in the final days of preparing for the next service trip to the Dominican Republic. In this case, the trip is focused on working with first year medical students (M1) students from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Medicine. We will be in the DR for 10 days, and will be working at the Paraíso site as well as spending some time working with a newly established Fundación Sol Naciente community health center in a separate barrio in Santo Domingo.

The hope is that this trip will provide care to over 1,000 patients and continue to expand our service and engagement with the community.
